Amtrak Open to Limited Metro-North Service Into NY Penn Station
Amtrak is open to adding limited Metro-North Railroad service into New York City’s Penn Station by 2027, but there would need to be fewer Long Island Rail Road trains into that station, the national passenger rail said in a letter to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Amtrak’s letter, dated Wednesday, is in response to the MTA’s request last month for Amtrak — which owns the railroad tracks — to get Metro-North trains stopping in the East Bronx by 2027. The MTA runs New York City’s subways, buses and commuter rail lines. Its $2.9 billion project to connect Metro-North into Penn Station won’t be done until 2030, but limited service could begin in 2027 with Amtrak’s help.
