Copper rose as traders bet that the US Federal Reserve will need to further ease monetary policy to shore up a weakening economy.

The US government is preparing to reopen after the longest shutdown in history. That will lead to the resumption of economic data releases that investors expect will show economic weakness, prompting the Fed to cut rates in December.
