India imposed stricter pollution control measures for New Delhi and its neighboring regions on Tuesday following rare public protests demanding stronger action.

The Commission for Air Quality Management ordered a temporary halt to all non-essential construction activity, shut down stone crushers and mining operations and advised primary schools to conduct online classes. Older diesel and petrol vehicles have been barred from roads in the National Capital Region.
