Germany’s SEFE to End Long-Term LNG Deal With Russia by 2027

Germany’s SEFE — the former Gazprom PJSC unit nationalized by the German government after the invasion of Ukraine — plans to end a gas-import deal with Russia by January 2027.

That’s the date when the European Union targets a ban on imports of Russian liquefied natural gas. SEFE has been criticized for honoring its long-term contract to take LNG from a plant on Siberia’s Yamal Peninsula. But Germany’s Economy Ministry has now told the company to declare force majeure to wriggle free.
