Macquarie Group Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Shemara Wikramanayake said history tells us that volatility in commodities markets will likely pick up again after profit took a hit from a lack of swings in areas from gas to oil.

“We’ve been in commodity markets for multiple decades and they don’t tend to stay subdued across all commodities for years in a row,” she said in a phone interview on Friday. After shorter periods where things are more benign, activity lifts again where you “typically have a dislocation happen somewhere,” she said.
