The US Treasury lowered its borrowing estimate for federal borrowing for the current quarter, primarily due to the higher cash balance at the beginning of the quarter.

The Treasury Department said in a statement Monday that it now estimates $569 billion in net borrowing for October through December, down from the $590 billion it had penciled in back in July. That’s assuming an $850 billion cash balance, which is unchanged from previous quarters.
