Hurricane Melissa Fades as Destructive Toll in Caribbean Mounts
Hurricane Melissa weakened as it headed toward the North Atlantic, where it’s expected to disintegrate after its deadly tear through the Caribbean.
Weather warnings have been canceled as Melissa, now a Category 1 storm with 90 miles (145 kilometers) per hour winds, approaches Newfoundland after glancing the Bahamas and Bermuda, the US National Hurricane Center said in a forecast advisory at 5 a.m. New York time.
