Finland to Tighten Huawei Ban in 5G Network on Security Grounds

Finland plans to exclude high-risk vendors from a bigger portion of its fifth-generation mobile network in line with a push by the European Union to boost telecommunications security across the bloc.

Having ousted vendors including Huawei Technologies Co. from the core of its telecommunications network in 2021 on grounds of national security, authorities now seek to widen the ban to include 5G base stations and a range of 5G core functions, according to a draft regulation circulated for comments and posted online by Traficom, the country’s transport and communications agency.
