Philippine Senators to Face Plunder Charges in Graft Scandal
Two Philippine senators and two other former lawmakers will be recommended to face plunder charges over a corruption scandal in flood infrastructure that sapped investor sentiment in the Southeast Asian nation.
The Independent Commission for Infrastructure will recommend criminal and administrative charges against Senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada, along with two former lawmakers for direct or indirect bribery, corruption of public officers and plunder, the body’s chairman Andres Reyes Jr. said in a televised briefing Wednesday. The commission will submit an interim report to the Ombudsman, he said.
