Cameroon blamed the opposition for post-election violence and said several people had died following the contested result, which handed 92-year-old President Paul Biya an eighth term in office.

The West African nation laid responsibility for the unrest on Issa Tchiroma Bakary, a former cabinet minister and Biya’s closest rival, who had claimed victory in the Oct. 12 ballot before official results were released on Monday.
