Australian Opposition Pressure Mounts Against Net-Zero Targets
Internal pressure within Australia’s conservative opposition coalition to drop net-zero emissions targets intensified over the weekend as two key figures stepped up their attacks on the climate goals.
Matt Canavan, deputy leader of the National Party and a vocal critic of net-zero emissions targets, said he would share results of a report with colleagues on Monday that is expected to recommend dropping the goals. The findings are partly based on input from stakeholders including businesses but do not include economic modeling, he said.
