Cameroonian gendarmes arrested more than 20 opposition members ahead of the proclamation of the Oct. 12 presidential election’s result, which is expected to confirm nonagenarian Paul Biya’s victory to serve another seven-year term despite allegations of voting irregularities.

The Ministry of Defense was unavailable to comment on why the individuals were arrested in Douala, Cameroon’s largest city. Officials across the country have banned all protests pending the announcement amid public clashes between security forces and activists.
