Chile’s Moderate Candidate Gets Support of Center-Left Stars

Three weeks shy of Chile’s presidential election, key figures from the center-left political class that governed for most of the prosperous post-dictatorship era are reaching across the aisle to back the only candidate they say can save the country from dangerous extremes.

Over 100 politicians and economists signed a letter supporting center-right contender Evelyn Matthei, saying she is the best option for Chile “to recover confidence in itself, its democracy and its shared future.”
