Takaichi Breaks Japan’s Glass Ceiling With Politics in Turmoil
Japan’s Sanae Takaichi vowed to strengthen the nation’s economy and defense capabilities, and enhance relations with the US, after making history by becoming Japan’s first female prime minister.
“I will work tirelessly for the nation and its people, fearing no change and acting boldly,” Takaichi said at her inaugural press conference on Tuesday, following her victory in a parliamentary vote earlier in the day. “To that end, I have formed a cabinet today. For the nation and its people, I will deliver results. To build a strong Japan, I will never give up.”
