Deutsche Lufthansa AG expects further delays in aircraft certifications and deliveries because of the US government shutdown, amplifying the challenges Europe’s largest aviation group faces in renewing its fleet.

As a result, the airline’s Boeing Co. 787-9 Dreamliners, featuring the new Allegris cabin, will keep flying with most of the business-class seats blocked off due to pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. That’s preventing Lufthansa from selling some of its priciest tickets until at least the end of this year.
