China slammed a fresh delay to the UK’s decision on plans for a sprawling new Chinese embassy in central London, warning of unspecified “consequences” if the building isn’t given the go-ahead.

“The British side has shown no sense of contractual obligation, breaking promises and acting in bad faith,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a regular press briefing on Friday in Beijing. “It has repeatedly delayed approval under various pretexts and arbitrarily imposed additional conditions, resulting in the increasing complexity and politicization of the approval process.”
