French premier Sebastien Lecornu appears set to survive two no-confidence motions on Thursday after announcing plans to suspend a contentious pension law in order to win support in the National Assembly.

Both Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally and the far-left’s France Unbowed party filed censure motions. Debate began at 9 a.m. Paris time. But those opposition groups have only succeeded in toppling previous governments with the support of Socialist lawmakers, who say they will stand down on this occasion.
