Madagascar’s presidency condemned an army faction that declared support for anti-government protests and said the president would address the nation on Monday, a day after warning an attempt to seize power was under way.

“A faction of the army has mutinied and announced in various ways its intention to harm the physical integrity of the head of state,” the presidency said in a statement, as the so-called Gen Z demonstrations approached a fourth week. That crossed a democratic “red line,” it said.
