Malaysia’s consumption and tourism-related companies are set to get a boost as the government increases cash handouts to cushion the impact of higher cost of living on citizens.

Spending on handouts will increase to 15 billion ringgit ($3.6 billion) in 2026, from 13 billion ringgit this year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said during the Budget 2026 speech on Friday. The government will also allocate funds for strategic sectors such as semiconductors, clean energy, and digital transformation, while narrowing the fiscal deficit to 3.5% of gross domestic product from 3.8% in 2025.
