Poverty has risen steeply in Nigeria even as Africa’s most—populous country undertakes reforms designed to deliver economic growth, according to a new report from the World Bank.

The number of Nigerians living in poverty is projected to reach 139 million this year from 81 million in 2019, with most of the rise occurring prior to 2023, the bank said in its bi-annual development update on the country released on Wednesday.
