Thousands of Malaysians rallied outside the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday to demand the country take action over Israel, amid growing criticism of US President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to the Southeast Asian nation.

Protesters called on the US to pressure Israel to let ships carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza reach the war-torn Palestinian territory, and for the release of those from the flotilla, Bernama reported. Twenty-three Malaysians on the ships were detained by Israel, according to Malaysia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry. Demonstrators also urged Trump to prevent what they view as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “hijacking” the peace process.
