One of the two people killed in the terrorist assault on a Manchester synagogue appears to have been shot by armed police officers as they responded to an assailant who attacked Jewish worshipers with a vehicle and a knife.

Greater Manchester Police said one of the fatalities on Thursday morning looked to have sustained gunshot wounds. Jihad Al-Shamie, the 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent who carried out the attack, is not believed to have been in possession of a firearm, Chief Constable Stephen Watson said Friday in a statement.
