A group of investors led by billionaire Patrick Zalupski, a Florida-based businessman, has agreed to purchase the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team from Stu Sternberg after years of unsuccessful negotiations to find the club a new stadium.
The sale was unanimously approved by the other Major League Baseball owners, according to a statement from the team Tuesday. The Rays finished fourth in the AL East division this year and missed the playoffs.
