Thailand’s premier started the countdown to dissolve parliament in four months and hold elections early next year, setting the stage for another round of political jockeying between the royalist establishment he represents and the upstart reform movement that has challenged the status quo.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul delivered his government’s policy address to parliament on Monday, a procedural step that marked the starting of the clock under his agreement with the reformist People’s Party — the opposition that backed his bid for premiership on conditions including an early poll.
