Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves is counting on the bond markets to have her back. But on Monday she faces down her own party, and she may find them tougher to win over.

At the annual Labour Party conference in Liverpool she needs to convince her disgruntled colleagues that her economic program can undermine the populist right, without risking her reputation for fiscal prudence.
