Bayer Leverkusen Chief Executive Officer Fernando Carro has called for an international salary cap for football players, warning that the English Premier League’s financial dominance could undermine the Champions League.

The Premier League in England “was trying to become the number one product in Europe, even above the European Champions League,” Carro said on a panel at the Future of Finance Bloomberg event in Frankfurt. Carro emphasized that a salary cap would only be effective if implemented internationally and as an absolute limit.
