Trump Upends Shutdown Talks With Democrats as Deadline Nears

Photographer: Eric Lee/BloombergPresident Donald Trump said Democrats must drop their demands for renewing health care subsidies and ending Medicaid cuts before he’ll agree to negotiate with congressional leaders at a meeting they planned for Thursday, ratcheting up the risk of an Oct. 1 government shutdown.
“After reviewing the details of the unserious and ridiculous demands being made by the Minority Radical Left Democrats in return for their Votes to keep our thriving Country open, I have decided that no meeting with their Congressional Leaders could possibly be productive,” Trump said in a social media post on Tuesday.
