Kazakhstan Seeks Economic Growth Beyond Oil and Leans on China to Find It
Kazakhstan is pushing ahead with efforts to wean itself off oil, leaning on China and plowing tens of billions of dollars into supporting growth, according to the deputy premier overseeing the economy.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is driving to reshape the economy of Central Asia’s biggest crude producer, aiming to improve the business climate and modernize the nation of 20 million people. To support growth the government has drawn up an $80 billion investment plan for infrastructure until 2029 with about half set for energy and the rest earmarked for transportation, digital development and water supply, Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin said in an interview.
