Compass Inc. agreed to buy Anywhere Real Estate Inc. in a $1.5 billion stock deal that would cement Compass’s status as the largest residential brokerage in the US.

Anywhere shares will be exchanged for 1.436 shares of Compass’s Class A common stock, according to a statement Monday. The transaction values Anywhere at $13.01 per share, or 84% more than its closing price on Sept. 19, when the stock closed at $7.07.
