BHP Venture Spends $400 Million Ahead of Argentina Copper Pitch
A BHP Group venture is spending more than $400 million in Argentina as it prepares to seek approvals for a multibillion-dollar mining project in an area it hopes will be the next major production hub for copper.
The Vicuña joint venture between Australia’s BHP and Canada’s Lundin Mining Corp. is doing pre-construction work at a deposit called Josemaria located in a remote part of San Juan province, said Jose Luis Morea, Vicuna’s senior country manager for Argentina and Chile.
