Ford, Bosch Deepen Job Cuts in Blow to German Auto Industry
Ford Motor Co. and Robert Bosch GmbH are slashing more jobs in Germany, underscoring the punishing mix of weak demand and high costs that’s battering Europe’s auto heartland.
Ford will eliminate an additional 1,000 positions at its Cologne electric-vehicle plant due to slower-than-expected demand for the technology, it said Tuesday. Germany’s Bosch also announced deeper cost cuts, warning that its Mobility division faces an annual shortfall of about €2.5 billion ($2.95 billion) amid mounting competition and lackluster sales.
