‘Plundering’ of South Sudan’s Oil Billions Fuels Crisis, UN Says

Billions of dollars have been plundered via rampant corruption in South Sudan, according to the United Nations, financing conflict and starving essential services in one of Africa’s poorest nations.

In a report on Tuesday, the UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan said its oil wealth had been diverted into the pockets of a narrow elite, pushing the nation to “the brink of catastrophe.”
