US Weighs COP30 Climate Summit Attendance for ‘Honest Dialogue’

“I would not be at all against going, if I had an audience and a platform to engage with the world,” said Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

The US is still considering whether to attend the upcoming COP30 climate summit in Brazil in order to have an “honest dialogue” on the feasibility of the world’s green transition, according to Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

One of Donald Trump’s first acts at the start of his second term as president was to sign an executive order withdrawing the US from the landmark Paris Agreement, which commits countries to keeping global warming below 2C, and ideally 1.5C. Yet the process takes one year, meaning the country can still take part in negotiations at the United Nations summit in the Amazon city of Belem in November.
