Russian Wargames Feed NATO Anxiety After Poland Drone Incursion

Russia led a mobilization of some 200,000 troops four years ago as part of wargames with its ally Belarus. Months later, President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to invade Ukraine.

This year’s installment of the maneuvers — known as Zapad — is likely to be much smaller, given Russia’s stretched military in Ukraine. But tensions have been dialed up after a volley of Russian attack drones breached Polish territory this week, prompting the government in Warsaw to seek a NATO response.
