Josh Kraft, the son of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, is dropping out of Boston’s mayoral race after losing badly to incumbent Michelle Wu in this week’s preliminary election.
Kraft, a nonprofit leader and political newcomer, suspended his campaign on Thursday evening, after winning just 23% of the Sept. 9 vote compared with Wu’s commanding 72%. He had shattered fundraising records and outspent Wu by millions, but his suspension now leaves Wu all but assured of a second term in November with no other challenger advancing beyond the preliminary contest.
