China must apply pressure on Russia to stop the war on Ukraine if it wants to live up to its potential as a global power and avoid being caught up in further sanctions proposed by European and US leaders, according to Austria’s foreign minister.

Beijing needs to help draw Russian President Vladimir Putin into talks, as well as to stop aiding the Kremlin war machine by supporting the arms industry, Beate Meinl-Reisinger said Friday in an exclusive interview, hours after meeting her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Vienna.
