Germany to Back New York Plan for Israel and Palestine

Photographer: Jack Guez/AFP/Getty ImagesGermany’s government has decided to back a France-led proposal for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to people familiar with the plan, breaking with both US and Israel after this week’s strikes in Qatar.
Germany is planning to support a UN resolution on Friday adopting the New York Declaration, led by France and Saudi Arabia, said the people, who asked not to be named because the decision isn’t yet public. The declaration backs the creation of a Palestinian state as well as a right to return for refugees.
