German lawmakers gave their formal approval for the government’s planned purchase of three additional Heron surveillance drones from Israel in a package worth nearly €1 billion ($1.2 billion).

The budget committee in the Bundestag lower house of parliament also backed the procurement of Patria six-wheeled armored personnel carriers from Finnish manufacturer Patria Land Oy, according to participants in the close-door meeting Wednesday in Berlin, who asked not to be identified ahead of official confirmation.
