Romanian Teacher Protest Draws Thousands Over Austerity Agenda
A protest in Romania by striking teachers drew more than 10,000 people to the streets of the capital as the government confronts mounting social discontent over its agenda to cut state spending.
Demonstrators marched through Bucharest on Monday to boycott the beginning of the school year and demand the resignation of the nation’s education minister. The protest was organized by Romania’s main teachers’ unions in response to a government decision to increase working hours and cuts to a range of wages.
