Philadelphia Transit Hub to Get Funding Bailout to Reverse Cuts

Photographer: Ryan Collerd/BloombergPennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro on Monday directed the state’s Department of Transportation to approve a request directing a one-time funding lifeline to the cash-strapped mass transit system that serves the Philadelphia region.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, or SEPTA, sought $394 million in capital assistance funds from the PennDOT last week to help fill a $213 million budget deficit that triggered the rollout of drastic service cuts. The system services roughly 800,000 riders a day.
