A few months ago, Netflix dropped a new animated musical with only modest expectations. KPop Demon Hunters (as the title says) is about a fictional girl group that hunts demons. It features mostly unknown performers, is based on original characters instead of bankable intellectual property and didn’t even get a theatrical run. In the weeks after its June 20 release, those expectations more or less stayed the same. That is unless you were 10 years old, in which case you absolutely knew this thing was going to be, well, golden.
