France’s biggest farming groups asked the government to block a European Union free-trade agreement with South American countries, warning it fails to protect agricultural producers from cheaper imports.

Associations representing meat, poultry, beet, sugar, bioethanol and grains producers in Europe’s biggest agriculture grower said in a joint statement that Paris should refuse to sign the deal and rally other EU countries into a coalition to block its ratification.
