Northwestern University President Michael Schill resigned after a three-year tenure marked by controversy following protests on campus, conflict with the Trump administration over research funding and a hazing scandal in its football program.

“It has been my profound honor to serve as president of Northwestern University,” Schill said in a statement Thursday announcing his departure. “In that time, our community has made significant progress while simultaneously facing extraordinary challenges.”
