Guyanese President Irfaan Ali has declared victory in the country’s general election, though the final count isn’t expected until Thursday. The incumbent says he is basing his claim off of district declarations so far.

“When you look at the numbers that GECOM has released and you look at our own numbers, it’s in excess of 55%,” Ali said in an interview Wednesday, referring to the Guyana Election Commission.
