Turkey Opposition Chief Mulls New Candidate to Challenge Erdogan

Source: Turkey’s Republican People’s PartyTurkey’s main opposition party raised the prospect of the mayor of Ankara being its next presidential candidate, amid a clampdown that’s seen its most popular official and several others jailed.
With its preferred candidate — Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu — in prison and increasingly unlikely to contest the next presidential election, Republican People’s Party leader Ozgur Ozel said Mansur Yavas’ growing popularity may factor into the party’s decision. The choice hasn’t been finalized and any contender would need to first face an internal party vote.
