French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated his support for Prime Minister Francois Bayrou’s decision to call a confidence vote on Sept. 8, one that may well lead to the government’s ouster.

Macron declined to discuss his options if Bayrou’s government were to collapse. Those include naming a new premier or dissolving the National Assembly and holding early elections. But the French president insisted he wouldn’t resign, as some parties have demanded.
