Bolivia has surprisingly freed an opposition governor held in jail on controversial terrorism allegations, just weeks after the ruling socialist party was dealt an electoral blow.

Luis Fernando Camacho, the governor of Bolivia’s wealthiest region, had spent almost 1,000 days in jail, for allegedly plotting in 2019 to overthrow the socialist government of President Evo Morales.
