Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan launched her reelection bid with her main political opponent in jail over treason charges and the candidate of the second-largest opposition party barred from vying.

Hassan, 65, will run against more than a dozen mostly unknown candidates from smaller political parties, virtually guaranteeing her victory. More than 37.6 million people are registered to vote in the poll scheduled for Oct. 29.
