Meloni Seeks Reform to Let Italians Directly Choose Premiers

Giorgia Meloni vowed to relaunch a proposed change to how Italian prime ministers are chosen even though a previous reform push appeared to receive tepid popular support.

“The direct election of the head of government is the most solid guarantee for stability and governability,” the prime minister told a political conference in Rimini, Italy, Wednesday. “And stability, we’ve seen these months, is an extraordinary factor for competitiveness.”
