Mauritius is preparing to sell a minority stake in its national airline as the Indian Ocean island aims to boost tourism and improve the carrier’s finances, according to people familiar with the matter.

The government is leading the effort to sell 49% of the state-owned airline and plans to officially start seeking bids next week, said one of the people, asking not to be identified because the plan hasn’t been announced. Qatar Airways has emerged as the preferred investor of some members of government and is among the potential bidders, the people said.
